Loving God, Loving People
By Pastor Randy Damron

A couple of years ago I took a motorcycle ride to Florida. My brother and I then proceeded to Key West, the southern most point in Florida. It was a beautiful ride and a great experience.

As we returned toward my brother’s house, taking a different route through Central Florida, a church billboard caught my eye. It said, “Loving God and Loving People.” This touched my heart because we had recently adopted this phrase as our church motto.

As I rode along I couldn’t get those words out of my mind. I began singing those words and knew instinctively that a new song was being birthed from my heart.

As I pondered on this phrase, I realized how easy the first part was. It was the second part that usually I find the hardest even though it is a command of Jesus, not a suggestion.

He said, “Thou shalt love the Lord Thy God with all Thy heart, and with all Thy soul, and with all Thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” Matthew 22:37-39

Here is the song!

Loving God and loving people,
Loving you Lord is so easy,
You are faithful, You are true
Loving kindness You have shown me
How could I not return my love to You?

Oh, but loving others don’t come easy
At times it’s a hard thing to do
But You see what’s inside
And in the mirror of my heart too
Am I a reflection of one who loves like You?

Loving God and Loving People
A witness You called us to be
Loving God and Loving People
I can love because You first loved me.

Too many lawyers Too many judges
I never walked in another man’s shoes
We don’t need stone throwers
Cause we’re all guilty too
We need to see through Your eyes
Feel Your heart beat
